About the event
African Americans answered the call to serve during both World War I and World War II, despite facing discrimination and segregation within the military and at home. This lecture explores the experiences of Black soldiers during the World Wars, highlighting their service, sacrifice, and determination in the fight to defend democracy abroad while pursuing greater equality in the United States. Drawing on historical records and personal stories, archivist Lisa Keith-Lucas of Camp Gordon Johnston will examine the challenges these servicemen faced and the lasting impact of their contributions.

Lisa Keith-Lucas is the dedicated archivist and president of the board at the Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle, Florida.
