This presentation explores the Reconstruction period in Florida through the lens of ecological systems theory to examine how historical policies, institutions, and sociopolitical forces have shaped human development along ethnoracial lines. While often framed as a brief and failed experiment in racial progress, Reconstruction set the foundation for both systemic disenfranchisement and community resilience that continue to influence developmental outcomes today.
